the sling connection

Slings allow you to feed your baby on the go, sometimes even breastfeed hands-free.

So, get up, straighten the house, maybe make yourself a snack -- all while baby happily nurses.  Some babies nurse frequently, others may take their time at a feeding.  No matter what your little one’s needs are, your sling can help you care for baby with ease.  Leave the house - go anywhere you please; take your baby and your baby sling.  Rest assured that no matter how public a place you are in, you’ll be able to breastfeed with as much privacy as you desire with your sling.  (Sometimes when you are nursing an infant “under cover” in a ring sling or wrap, people won’t even realize you have a baby.)

While an experienced babywearer can learn to nurse in any kind of sling, a ring sling is often thought of as ideal for nursing.  The open tail can be used as a cover-up (as in the photo above).  Wraps are also wonderful for nursing; you can wrap your child in a two shoulder cradle, which allows for even weight distribution on mom.  Some moms like to nurse older babies sitting up in a hip or snuggle position.

Breastfeeding in any sling is considered advanced babywearing.  It is a good idea to practice with a doll before baby is born, and then get comfortable wearing your baby in a few of the basic positions before you breastfeed in a sling for the first time.  Take your time.  Before you know it, you’ll be nursing and slinging like a pro!  :)
