Babywearing Basics
“Babywearing” refers to the practice of holding your baby close to your body in a sling or soft baby carrier.
Simply put, it makes life easier for you, and it is good for your baby.
Babywearing is a trend that is really taking off worldwide. There are hundreds of different baby carriers, but four main types: pouch, ring sling, Asian inspired carrier, and wrap. All of these carriers are generally referred to as “slings.” We use the terms “baby sling” and “baby carrier” interchangeably.
All slings are adjustable (some more so than others) and your child may be worn in a variety of positions: including newborn cradle, tummy to tummy, on your hip, and on your back.
Most baby carriers are appropriate, safe, and comfortable from birth to about 35 pounds (around 3 years old). This means that you should be able to wear your baby, with surprising comfort, until he or she outgrows the need.
Because slings are a growing trend, many tested and trusted brands are available. There are carriers out there to fit any budget, any style.

Like learning to bathe your newborn, once you learn, using your sling comfortably and safely will become second nature.
