the sling connection

So, what is the best sling for an infant (3 to 6 months old)?
A wrap or any of them.

At this stage, baby is less interested in being cradled (except sometimes for breastfeeding) and often more interested in facing out.  All four styles offer this position, so for this stage of development, it is a toss up in my opinion. . .  Both the mei tai and the wrap offer two shoulder comfort and the option of having baby’s legs in (crossed inside the carrier as seen above) or out (seen on the 6-12 month page), but the wrap tends to be the best for facing out positions.  The tummy to tummy position continues to be important (which can be done with all but the pouch).  Also, you may discover the fun and freedom of wearing baby on your back around this time in a mei tai, soft structured carrier, or wrap.

A note about back carries:   For a child under 12 months, I suggest doing a back carry with assistance until the wearer is completely comfortable doing a back carry, and even then, they should check their work in a mirror.  Check wearing instructions for details.

The purpose of this chart is to give you a general idea of how the various carriers are used.  These charts are not intended to take the place of thorough wearing instructions.
